Polymorphous Photography - Home

Welcome to Polymorphous Photography. Come explore the unique creative vision of John Spencer brought to life through the magic of panoramic photography. This site covers a broad spectrum of subject matter from the Desert Southwest to the Pacific Ocean. It also attempts to visually chronicle many of the disappearing places along the way including: "America’s Highway" Route 66, long abandoned Mines, and the Ghost Towns those Mines spawned.

My Philosophy

The aim of traditional photography has generally been to draw the eye to a more narrowly focused aspect of a scene, which the photographer finds to be interesting and have some artistic value. My goal is quite the opposite. I hope to open up and expand the scene to allow the viewer to saturate themselves with its entirety and complexity via the panorama. My hope is that the viewer will want to explore the scene and get pleasure by unexpectedly discovering some details of their own finding. It’s my contention that the viewer should be allowed to be a more active participant in deciding what is interesting, exhilarating, or beautiful in an image.
